Pollinator populations are declining worldwide and right here in our own community. Klosterman Bakery is proud to continue our partnership with the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden to support their work of growing pollinator-friendly plants, restoring pollinator habitats in our region and helping the vulnerable honeybee population.
We’ve teamed up with the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden again for our fifth annual Save Our Bees campaign. We want you to know that our campaign isn't just about saving bees because all pollinators play an important role and have a direct impact on the global food supply. Here at Klosterman, we want to be good stewards of the community and help cultivate a prosperous ecosystem for all pollinators to thrive in.
Honeybees are of special interest to us because they are the only producers of honey, which we use to make some of our most popular varieties of bread and buns and their populations have been declining. Honeybees are vitally important - not only to our business at Klosterman, but to all of agriculture. Bringing awareness to the steady decline of the global honeybee population is key to ensuring they have a fighting chance at survival.
One way we can help the population of pollinators is by planting native plants in our gardens. As luck would have it, we know just where you can find a wide range of hard-to-find, well-grown species of native plants at reasonable prices. The Cincinnati Zoo's Native Plant Sales at Bowyer Farm, a 529-acre farm and natural wetland in Warren County, is the one place where gardeners and pollinator champions can find this utopia.
The plants are grown by the Cincinnati Zoo's very own horticultural team and they have been designing, and planting gardens with pollinators in mind for decades. Needless to say, they know a thing or two about pollinator-friendly plants native to our region and why Klosterman is proud to sponsor the Native Plant Sales as part of the "Save Our Bees" mission.
The 2024 Fall Native Plant Sales will take place at Bowyer Farm (2210 Mason-Montgomery Road, Lebanon, Ohio). The hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on the following Saturdays: September 7, September 21, and October 5. The last plant sale of the season will take place on Wednesday October 16th, 3:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Credit card is the preferred payment method and advanced registration is required for all visitors for each Native Plant Sale as parking is limited. Appointment times typically fill quickly so reserve your time slot early. Click here to view the schedule your 30-minute shopping slot.
