We Are Bread Suppliers for Restaurants
Klosterman Baking Company started in 1892 under the name French Baking, and was founded by Frank Klosterman and Charlie Thiewald in Covington, KY. The business operated out of the basement of a bakeshop on Third Street making hard rolls and French bread for delivery to restaurants and residential homes. In 1918, Frank bought out Charlie, changed the name, and welcomed his brother Benjamin into the business. Over the decades and the next two generations to come the company steadily grew and expanded both its production by adding bakeries and its service area by adding fresh distribution centers around the Midwest.
In response to the changing needs of its customers during the course of the company’s history, Klosterman is known for several baking “firsts” in the region, such as the first square loaf of bread, brown and serve rolls, hamburger buns, buns packaged in plastic wrap, and ½ size retail loafs.
Under the leadership of the family’s fourth generation, Klosterman Baking Company grew to become one of the largest family-owned bakeries in the Midwest. In 2022, after 130 years of owning and operating such a successful wholesale baking company, the Klosterman family decided to step away from the business and pass the torch to new ownership. Although ownership may have changed the name will remain the same and Klosterman Baking Company will carry on the founding family’s baking legacy. The tradition of providing top-notch customer service and quality fresh baked goods to restaurants, grocery stores, hospitals, schools, and other food service providers throughout the United States will continue.
